Photo Session: What to Wear?
Planning your outfits for a photo session can be super overwhelming! I totally get it, I stress every time I’m putting together the outfits for just my husband and me and we are only two people! I’ve created these tips on what to wear and what to avoid to help inspire you to pick the best outfits for your session.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Decide if you want to go casual or be more formal. There is no right or wrong answer! It’s all about feeling good in what you are wearing.
Coordinate with each other by choosing a simple non busy pattern and pull one of the solid colors in the pattern to connect each person.
You can also pick one color and use varying shades of that color (i.e. navy blue, teal, light blue).
Wear colors that you know you look good in (yes we all have colors we don’t look good in - yellow for me!)
Consider your location. Do you want to stand out against the location or blend in with it?
WHAT TO AVOID:
Don’t wear clothing with large graphics and logos. They become super distracting when looking at the final images.
Don’t do the “white t-shirt and jeans” or khaki trend. It was a hit in the 90’s, but this is no longer the fashion.
Don’t wear clothing you will feel uncomfortable in whether it is too tight or too loose. I can’t emphasize enough to wear what you feel good in.
KEEP THE END PRODUCT IN MIND:
What colors would you want on your wall for the final printed artwork? If your home has a certain color theme, try coordinating with your favorite colors in your home so the final artwork will blend in. Or think opposite if you want to stand out from the colors in your home. The possibilities are endless.
RESEARCH VISUAL IDEAS:
Take some time to look through my blog posts on previous sessions. Google or Pinterest family photos and see what people are wearing and which "look" you like best. It's all about personal preference! If you want to get super adventurous and work with color palettes this website is very useful - https://www.design-seeds.com/by-color/
