Goodbye Key West!
I have never been so ready to leave a place, no offense Key West. There were many things I did love about Key West like the home Travis and I bought together and the memories we created with our two rescue pups we adopted while living there. I also loved all my photo sessions and the people I got to meet through photography. I enjoyed working as a waitress for the first time at Hogfish Bar & Grill and am really going to miss the friends I made working there. We met some amazing long life friends from the Navy as well. I also love the warm, clear water and am going to miss adventuring out to sandbars.
I am getting real and raw here. I am well aware there are a lot worst places to be stationed! However, in many ways the bad just outweighed the good. I have realized my gypsy soul was not meant to live on an island. It works for a lot of people, but just not for me hahah. I blame it on growing up outside D.C., living in Los Angeles and then outside Tokyo. I have always been surrounded by a life of museums, culture, great food and endless possibilities. I have decided my mind and soul does not know how to slow down. Travis would tell me all the time to just learn to live the easy island life - and I think I failed at it! Traveling was super difficult since we lived so far away from everything. It was easily a three to four hour drive to mainland America (yes Key West is that far away) and the local airport was super pricey to fly out of. Travis and I also love camping, hiking and mountain adventures which Key West failed to offer. It was also very, very, very hot! The humidity was out of this world uncomfortable and there were always so many mosquitos. The fear of hurricanes taking out our home every season was a new fear I was not a fan of. I know it’s a great place to visit for a week or so, but living here was not that great.
So I think with all of these facts it is safe to say we are very happy to move onto our next adventure in San Diego! I will be traveling a lot in the next few months and visiting Travis at all his port calls while he is deployed. I am not quite sure when we will officially get settled into San Diego, but you all will be the first to know.
I am forever grateful for what Key West did offer us and all the good memories. I become a mixed canvas of colors and energy from every place I have lived and love this fact. Thank you again to everyone in Key West (and afar) for all your love and support! I am forever grateful for all of you that allow me to continue to do what I love every day. I can’t wait to meet and photograph everyone in San Diego!
