Q&A with Amanda Brooke Photography // Scranton, PA

Happy Birthday to my best friend, Amanda!  We met in college at Brooks Institute of Photography in lovely Santa Barbara.  We lived together for 6 years after we graduated and moved to LA.  We have been lucky enough to work together on numerous occasions and she is a very talented photographer.

I thought it would be fun to do a little Q&A  for insight to anyone  interested in photography or the importance of hiring a professional photographer :)  If you are in Northeast Pennsylvania (or passing through) I recommend hiring her for a photo session.  More of her photos can be seen on her website http://www.amandabrookephotography.com

When did you start getting interested in Photography? I started getting interested in photography in high school. I think I was in 10th or 11th grade and my art teacher told me about a local college that was offering a photography course to local high school kids. So a friend and I took the class together and the rest is history.

What was the most important thing you learned from going to Photography School? I would say the basics. I didn’t have any prior knowledge of photography except for that little college course I took in high school. So going into photography school an F-stop and Shutter Speed sounded like another language to me - and it is ;P

What's your favorite part about being a photographer? My favorite thing about being a photographer is helping people save a special memory forever. I lost my mom a few years ago and the most important thing I have left is photos of her. I want to help people to be able to look back at a certain time in their life and be so thankful they have beautiful photos to remember it by.

What would you recommend every person should have/hire a photographer for? Family photos! You may hate getting your picture taken, but it will be so special for your kids and grandkids to have in the future.

Quickly describe a common session with you (choose anything i.e. Wedding, babies, family): Well right now I am in the heat of wedding season - my favorite season :) I absolutely love photographing weddings because I LOVE, love! It’s so special for me to be with the bride and groom as they are getting ready to marry the love of their life! I literally get a front seat to their entire day - how cool is that!

Photo advice for the average person wanting to take a good photo? Lol well whenever someone takes a picture of me I always look to see the angle they took the photo - is it a flattering angle to the subject, and the lighting :) Lighting is very important and could make or break a photo :)

Just for fun, what is your favorite quote? Well I LOVE quotes - one I just saw that I really loved “The one who falls and gets up is so much stronger than the one who never fell at all” That struck a chord with me because I have had A LOT of trials throughout my life. Although at the time they seem terrible I couldn’t say I would be who I am today without all those trials.
